Over four years ago, construction (miraculously!) began
on a new school site, up the hill 180 steps from the original school's
location. Funds from the city and state helped clear the site and build
the sturdy cement classroom buildings, a large comedor (kitchen and
lunchroom), new bathrooms with flush toilets, and a small office.
In September 2002, all children were finally moved from
the old school up to the new one, even though construction was not yet
complete. Now ten sturdy cement classrooms are completed and work continues
on structural landscaping. A large comedor (kitchen
and lunchroom) is operating. New bathrooms
have sinks and flush toilets, and a small school office provides an
administrative center and place to secure supplies. In 2000-2003, Rotary
funds, Sailfest
and Bellack Foundation helped build and repair major retaining walls,
fences and gates to enclose the school grounds and keep construction
progress in motion, and improve site safety. An all-new 200 child kindergarten and ongoning site repairs are two important capital projects
that offer donation opportunities.
Funding for School Repairs, Playground & Supplies
With the school hill-top site partially finished and
enrollment always growing, there is an on-going need for funds to help
complete retaining walls, the playground, do repairs, and buy supplies
like clean drinking water, pencils, notebooks, art supplies, textbooks,
library books, and more. We soon hope to set up a small computer lab as well. Contact Lisa Martin
of the Netza School Project. If you plan to visit the school,
please bring any school or art supplies you can! (See our wish-list or email us for up-to-date needs)
